Inappropriate Typography

What better way to celebrate 100 years of your prestigious sailing federation than by using Comic Sans? Was Hobo already taken?

The NFL Countdown Begins

2008 marks the unveiling of the new retooled NFL logo. I miss the ornateness of the "L" but I think it's a good way to update the logo without throwing away all the brand equity the NFL logo has accumulated.

The Titans celebrate their 10-year anniversary with a brand new logo that will be worn on their left-front shoulder. I've got a love-hate relationship with the Titans, since they uprooted my beloved Houston Oilers to... Tennessee.

The FOX graphics are always top-notch. I love their use of United for their in-game type. I'm ready for some FOOTBALL.

Volkswagen Shift

Volkswagen recently launched a new campaign for their smooth-shifting gearbox. It uses a simple type treatment illustrating the point.
For those keeping score at home, Volkswagen uses Futura which it has used since the initial Doyle Dane Berbach days. Futura can also be seen on the moon, as well as all of Wes Anderson films.

The Dangers of Working With Type

Found on the interwebs, this is an actual photo of a second-run Portland theater, the Cinemagic changing it's marquee from Hancock to The Dark Knight.
As one Flickr poster commented, "maybe it's a heart-warming new Disney extravaganza about an evil rooster."

Kick-ass Typography

Check out some amazing typography by designer, Yehrin Tong. Some of his pieces look like a cross between those color blindness tests and the space trip from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Quite awesome, indeed.

HT to art director, Jennifer Puno for this sweet-ass find.

Typographic Parking Garage Design

This is amazing work. Designer, Axel Peemoller has created an award-winning way-finding system for the Eureka Tower Carpark in Melbourne. Letters can be read perfectly when standing (driving) in a certain location.

Worst Sports Jersey Candidate

My eyes!!
Members of the WNBA revealed their olympic jerseys during a game ceremony. I would tell you if the names font was working, but I can't even make it out with the color choice and the "We The People" design underneath. Overall the rest of the U.S. jerseys are pretty cool and well designed, but they missed the mark with the women's hoops team.
